QU women’s volleyball team finishes strong in exhibition victory over WIU

MACOMB, Ill. — The Quincy University women’s volleyball team doesn’t officially open its season until Friday at the Henderson State Tournament in Arkadelphia, Ark., but the Hawks already have set the stage for success.

QU dominated Western Illinois University in the final two sets of Saturday’s exhibition match at Western Hall, winning 25-17, 22-25, 25-16, 25-15.

The Hawks put together a .317 attack percentage, while limiting the Leathernecks to a .131 attack percentage.

Mattie Norris led Quincy with 15 kills and a .448 attack percentage, while Emma Wijnbergen had 13 kills and Alyssa Grimm added 10. Makayla Knoblauch dished out 42 assists, and America Galvan had 14 digs.

Elizabeth Ziegler and Brittany Wulf led WIU with 10 kills apiece. Jessie Connell dished out 21 assists. The Leathernecks open their season at the Purdue-Fort Wayne Invitational, facing former Great Lakes Valley Conference member Lindenwood in their first match.
