QUINCY — The Quincy University women’s basketball team outscored Southwest Baptist University 17-3 over the final four minutes Saturday afternoon to post a 63-59 Great Lakes Valley Conference victory in Pepsi Arena.

A 3-pointer by Beth Matas Martin from the top of the circle gave the Hawks the lead for good with just under three minutes remaining, and Grace Flanagan added two more 3-pointers to extend a rally that saw the winners overcome a 14-point deficit late in the third quarter.

It was QU’s first victory over SBU in Pepsi Arena since November 2009. The Hawks are now 7-9 overall and 3-5 in the GLVC.

Matas Martin finished with a game-high 19 points and Sarah Nelson added 13. Emma Knipe tied her career high with 16 rebounds for the Hawks. QU was 12 of 14 from the free throw line, including 5 of 6 in the final quarter.

Quincy will wrap up the three-game homestand Monday against Drury, ranked second nationally in NCAA Division II.
