BOLIVAR, Mo. — The Quincy University men’s basketball team ran out of steam.

The challenge will be to recharge in a hurry.

Trailing by one at halftime Saturday at the Meyer Sports Center, the Hawks struggled to keep it tight as Southwest Baptist went on a 20-4 run spanning nearly seven minutes of the second half to propel it to an 86-60 victory in Great Lakes Valley Conference play.

The loss ends the Hawks’ three-game win streak and sends them into the GLVC Tournament as the 10th seed. Quincy (15-15, 8-12 GLVC) will face seventh-seeded McKendree (13-11, 9-11 GLVC) at 7 p.m. Monday in Lebanon, Ill.

The winner advances to the GLVC quarterfinals Thursday at the Vadalabene Center on the SIU-Edwardsville campus in Edwardsville, Ill.

The Hawks struggled offensively against the Bearcats, shooting just 32.8 percent from the field, 24 percent from 3-point range and 55.6 percent from free-throw line. A defensive effort that allowed the Bearcats to score 57 points and shoot 60.6 percent from the field in the second half made matters worse.

Sophomore guard Nate Shockey led the Hawks with 17 points, while junior guard Jalen Stamps added 14 points and senior guard Charles Callier had 10. Southwest Baptist had five players finish in double figures.
