QU men’s basketball team unable to slow UMSL, suffers seven straight loss
ST. LOUIS — The Quincy University men’s basketball team couldn’t stop Missouri-St. Louis from going on a scoring binge whenever it wanted.
The Tritons opened the game on a 9-0 spurt, then ripped off 13-2 stretch and closed the half on another 9-0 run. That was good enough for a 16-point halftime lead that catapulted UMSL to an 85-62 victory in Great Lakes Valley Conference play at the Mark Twain Building.
The loss is the seventh straight for the Hawks, who have fallen to 8-15 overall and 3-12 in the GLVC.
UMSL’s offensive efficiency played a major factor in this one. The Tritons shot 57.6 percent from the field and 53.8 percent from 3-point range with 14 makes. They also dished out 21 assists against just 12 turnovers.
Meanwhile, the Hawks struggled. They shot 41 percent from the field and 28 percent from 3-point range while committing 16 turnovers with just 13 assists. Jake Hamilton led Quincy with 16 points, while Max Booher had 12 points.
The Hawks finish the weekend road trip against Lincoln in Jefferson City, Mo., at 3 p.m. Saturday.
