QU men’s and women’s soccer teams shut out by Rockhurst in final regular-season games
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The time to rebuild begins now for the Quincy University men’s soccer program.
QU wrapped up its season Sunday with a 3-0 loss to Rockhurst in Great Lakes Valley Conference play at Bourke Field. It punctuated the second worst season in the tradition-rich program’s history as Quincy finished 3-11-3 overall.
Only the 1985 team, playing against an NCAA Division I schedule, finished with a worse record at 3-14-1.
Quincy also finished 1-11-1 in the GLVC, placing 12th in the 13-team league and failing to make the GLVC Tournament for the fourth time in the last six seasons. QU is 34-39-7 in league play in that stretch.
Against Rockhurst, Quincy allowed two goals in the first 16 minutes and was outshot 12-0 in the first half. Overall, Rockhurst outshot Quincy 20-7 and 13-1 in shots on goal.
Quincy goalkeeper David Fitzgerald made 10 saves.
In the women’s game, Rockhurst limited Quincy to two shots on goal in picking up a 3-0 victory. Quincy finished 2-7-7 overall and 2-5-5 in Mackenzie Schissel’s first season as head coach.
