SAN ANTONIO, Texas — BJ Wilson is getting another chance to prove he belongs on a professional football team’s roster.

Wilson, the Quincy University graduate who was an All-Great Lakes Valley Conference left tackle, was selected in the United Football League’s dispersal draft by the San Antonio Brahmas. He is expected to join the Brahmas for training camp beginning Feb. 24 in Arlington, Texas.

The 6-foot-7, 320-pound Wilson went undrafted in last April’s NFL Draft but signed a free-agent contract with the Carolina Panthers in May ahead of rookie mini-camp. He is the first QU football product to ever sign a contract with an NFL franchise.

Wilson was cut by the Panthers before the first preseason game. He signed with the XFL’s Houston Roughnecks on December 11.

Shortly thereafter, the XFL and the USFL announced a merger, becoming the UFL.

The UFL will play its inaugural spring season beginning March 30 and will feature eight teams. It went through a player dispersal draft Jan. 5, and all players not protected or selected in the first draft were available in the second dispersal draft.

Wilson was a first-team All-GLVC offensive lineman in 2022 when he helped the Hawks to a 4-7 record. He holds the QU program record for career starts with 45 and was a second-team All-GLVC selection in 2021. A St. Louis native, Wilson played football and basketball at Saint Louis University High before signing with the Hawks.
