QUINCY — Leave it to a Quincy product to score the first goal in a Quincy soccer team’s historic victory.

Logan Zanger, a freshman defender on the John Wood Community College men’s soccer team and a Quincy Notre Dame graduate, moved up to join the attack on a restart and finished from outside the far post for the first goal in a 5-0 victory over the Illinois College JV on Thursday afternoon on the JWCC campus.

The Trail Blazers improved to 10-4 overall with their fourth consecutive victory, in the process breaking the single-season record for victories. The program was reintroduced in 2018 after previously competing from 1992-95.

Breno De Quieroz scored later in the first half to give the Trail Blazers a 2-0 halftime lead in extremely windy conditions.

In the second half, Quincy High School graduate Spencer Jenkins, Josh Browne and Amari Forbes all scored goals in the second half.
