QUINCY — The Quincy University women’s volleyball squad is reaping the rewards of its success.

Freshman middle blocker Alice Pavan was named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Freshman of the Year and was one of four Hawks named to the All-GLVC first team, the league announced Wednesday night. Quincy finished tied for the regular-season league championship with a 19-1 record and is the top seed for the GLVC Tournament.

Overall, five Hawks were honored among the 29 total players selected to the first and second teams.

Pavan, a 6-foot-1 native of Mira, Italy, emerged as a bona fide threat at the net, leading the GLVC overall in hitting percentage at .405 and tying for third in blocks (103). In GLVC-only matches, Pavan hit .340 with 89 kills and 45 blocks.

She follows sophomore teammate Emma Wijnbergen as the GLVC Freshman of the Year and is the third QU player to win the award since joining in the league in 1995.

Two Hawks were among the three All-GLVC first-team unanimous selections — senior setter Makayla Knoblauch and senior outside hitter Mattison Norris.

Knoblauch dished out 1,005 assists in 27 matches, averaging 10.81 assists per set. She also ranked second on the team with 274 assists and had 47 blocks. Norris led the Hawks with 327 kills and was third with 268 digs, while putting together 13 double-doubles in 27 matches.

Wijnbergen also was a first-team selection after compiling 300 kills and 46 blocks.

Senior outside hitter Emily Rehagen was a second-team selection, finishing with 267 kills, 240 digs and a .961 serve receive percentage.

The Hawks (26-1) open play in the GLVC Tournament at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the EastSide Centre in East Peoria, Ill., against eighth-seeded Maryville. The Hawks also learned Tuesday they remain the No. 1 seed in the NCAA Division II Midwest Region poll and are in line to host the regional beginning November 17 at Pepsi Arena.

The NCAA Tournament selection show is scheduled for 9 p.m. Sunday and will be carried live at ncaa.com.
