Napleton, D’Alessio among four QU baseball players to enter transfer portal

QUINCY — Two starters from the record-setting Quincy University baseball team are among four Hawks who are entering the NCAA transfer portal.

Junior catcher Luke Napleton and junior shortstop Gino D’Alessio are exploring opportunities to move to the NCAA Division I level, while senior infielder Logan Voth is seeking the chance for more at-bats and junior right-hander Carter Endisch is looking for a doctorate program in physical therapy.

Napleton so far this postseason has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference and Midwest Region Player of the Year to go along with first-team All-GLVC and all-region honors. The Chicago St. Rita product is eligible for All-American honors.

The 6-foot-1, 205-pound right-handed slugger, who has one season of eligibility remaining, established new single-season and career home runs records this season, hitting an NCAA Division II-leading 29 dingers and finishing his three-year QU career with 50 home runs. He hit .352 with 18 doubles and 87 RBIs, which ranks second all-time behind Ryan Snyder’s 88 RBIs in 2016.

Napleton also threw out 10 of 39 base stealers with a .987 fielding percentage.

D’Alessio, who has one season of eligibility remaining, led the Hawks with a .393 average to go along with a single-season school record 86 runs scored. The Milwaukee, Wis., product collected 90 hits, which are the third most in a single season, and he had 20 doubles, 14 home runs and 59 RBIs.

His 233 career hits, 193 career runs and 43 career doubles rank among the top five in QU history. He was a second-team All-GLVC and second-team all-region selection.

Voth, a Mendon Unity graduate, played in 19 games with 16 starts this season, hitting .217 with one home run and four RBIs. He’ll be a graduate transfer with two years of eligibility remaining.

Endisch, a Hartland, Wis., product, made 15 appearances out of the bullpen, throwing 16 ⅔ innings with a 6.48 ERA. He struck out 19, walked 12 and allowed 12 earned runs. He has two years of eligibility remaining.

The Hawks finished the season with a program-record 47 victories, going 47-11 and winning the GLVC regular-season and tournament championships. They advanced to the Midwest Super Regional before losing twice to Indianapolis.
