Leathernecks to begin looking for new football coach as Elliott’s tenure ends
MACOMB, Ill. — Western Illinois University is in the market for a new football coach.
WIU athletic director Danielle Surprenant announced Tuesday the school will part ways with head coach Jared Elliott at the end of the season. The Leathernecks are 2-8 heading into Saturday’s season finale against Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
“Coach Elliott and I agreed that following the Fall 2021 season, the WIU football program would be going in a new direction. This was a difficult decision and one that wasn’t taken lightly,” Surprenant said in a press release. “Coach Elliott is a great person and is well-respected. I am grateful for his leadership, hard work and commitment to the Leatherneck football program, and we wish him and his family well.”
Elliott compiled a record of 9-30 in four seasons at the helm. The former WIU assistant and co-offensive coordinator was elevated to head coach in 2018. His tenure featured two victories over top-25 teams, and he coached four All-Americans.
