QUINCY — The situation could have been demoralizing.

The reaction to it proved otherwise.

The John Wood Community College women’s soccer team, with the wind blowing in its face from the start, surrendered a goal to Parkland four minutes into Tuesday’s NJCAA Division II Great Lakes District matchup at Quincy Recycle Field on the JWCC campus.

It took only seven minutes to answer, Kirsten Kramer scored off an Isabella Arrieta Montero assist in the 11th minute and the Trail Blazers never trailed again, winning 3-1 to advance in postseason play.

In the 25th minute, JWCC’s Melissa Thudt scored off a Breighlyn Thomas assist for a 2-1 halftime lead. Kramer scored an unassisted goal in the 66th minute to finish off the victory.

“The team continued to battle and stay tough to come out with the win,” said JWCC coach Hayley Womack, whose team is 4-9 overall. “It was a true team effort.”
