NORMAL, Ill. — Illinois State University junior golfer Alex McCulla will tee it up in the NCAA West Lafayette Regional, hosted by Purdue University on May 13-15 at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex.

The Quincy Notre Dame graduate was one of 10 individuals to receive an at-large regional bid. The West Lafayette Regional features 13 teams, including Missouri Valley Conference champion Southern Illinois. The top five teams and the low at-large individual in regional play advance to the NCAA championships.

McCulla will be joined by ISU teammate Valentin Peugnet in the regional field.

McCulla and Peugnet finished the regular season with 71.3 strokes-per-round averages, which are the second and third best single-season averages in program history. McCulla had 20 rounds at or below par and finished in the top 10 in four events.

He won the Island Resort Collegiate in September, posting a career-best round of 64 and setting an ISU program record with a 199 total. His round of 64 is tied for the third-lowest round in program history. Peugnet tied McCulla’s record of 199 when he won the Border Olympics in Laredo, Texas, in February.

The NCAA championships will be played May 24-29 at Moni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, Calif.
