QUINCY — An Achilles tendon injury kept Quincy University left tackle B.J. Wilson from completing a remarkable feat to end his collegiate career.

It did nothing to diminish the impact he had. The Great Lakes Valley Conference football coaches were well aware of that.

The 6-foot-6, 320-pound Wilson missed the Hawks’ regular-season finale against William Jewell due to the injury, making it the only game in his career he did not start. Wilson set a program record with 45 career starts, including 10 this season as he earned first-team All-GLVC honors.

Wilson was the only QU player to receive first-team honors, while 16 others received second-team plaudits or honorable mention.

Truman State running back Shamar Griffith, a Hannibal native who transferred from Missouri Western to play his final season in Kirksville, was a first-team all-conference selection. He rushed for 881 yards and nine touchdowns.

Bulldogs coach Gregg Nesbitt, also a Hannibal native who coached the Pirates from 1984-89, was named the GLVC Co-Coach of the Year after leading Truman State to a 9-2 record and a 5-1 record in the GLVC.

Quincy senior linebacker Peyten Chappel received second-team honors, giving him All-GLVC honors each of the past four seasons. The Hawks’ all-time leader in tackles finished the season with 102 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks and two interceptions.

Also receiving second-team honors were linebacker Peyton Plunkett, safety Joseph Webb, defensive tackle David Tabakovic, wide receiver AJ Hardin and wide receiver Jalen Lawrence.

Honorable mention selections were linebacker Jackson Connell, defensive back Davis Lewis, defensive lineman Cole Schnettgoecke, tight end Hans Wisnewski, wide receiver Paul Sullivan Jr., running back Tremayne Lee, quarterback Tionne Harris, and offensive linemen Austin Dearing and Lucas Sartori.
