ST. LOUIS — The leading scorers in the Great Lakes Valley Conference are feasting on the Quincy University men’s basketball team’s defense.

Marty Jackson became the latest to do so Saturday.

The Missouri-St. Louis junior forward scored a career-high 30 points, going 13 of 18 from the field, and helping the Tritons shoot 58.7 percent from the field in posting an 87-66 victory at the Mark Twain Building.

Jackson ranks fifth in the GLVC in scoring at 16.7 points per game and is one of four of the league’s top six scorers to have a banner day against the Hawks. McKendree’s Bryson Bultman went for 32 points, Missouri S&T’s Julien Smith scored 26 and Lindenwood’s Romelo Burrell had 26 points.

They each scored six or more points more than their season average against Quincy.

Jackson scored six of UMSL’s first nine points and helped stake the Tritons to an eight-point halftime lead. The Hawks were within 57-51 with 10 minutes to play in regulation before the Tritons went on a 14-2 run to gain some necessary separation.

Malik Hardmon went 11 of 14 from the free-throw line and led the Hawks with 23 points. Nate Shockey added 16 points as the Hawks shot 40 percent from the field and were credited with just three assists.
