Hawks spread wealth offensively in grabbing 20-point GLVC victory against Miners

QUINCY — Beth Matas Martin scored 20 points to lead five players in double figures Saturday as the Quincy University women’s basketball team rolled to an 83-63 victory over Missouri S&T in Pepsi Arena.

The victory was the Hawks’ first against the Miners, who had won the previous five meetings, since .

QU made 9 of 17 field goal attempts in the first quarter, including 4 of 7 from 3-point range, to open a 22-15 lead. Its torrid shooting pushed the advantage to 44-33 at halftime and 67-47 after three quarters.

The Hawks led for all but 35 seconds in improving to 9-10 overall and 5-6 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. They shot 47 percent from the field, made 13 of 27 3-pointers and outrebounded the Miners 40-28.

Emma Knipe and Grace Flanagan scored 12 points apiece for QU. Rylee Denbow added 11 and Sarah Nelson 10. Cymirah Williams had nine points and 14 rebounds for the Hawks.

Missouri S&T fell to 10-9 overall and 6-5 in league play. QU plays at McKendree Thursday night.
