Hawks’ Richardson picks up second-team All-GLVC honors

QUINCY — There were moments during the Great Lakes Valley Conference men’s basketball season where Zion Richardson couldn’t be stopped.

The league’s coaches recognized that.

The Quincy University senior guard was named a second-team All-GLVC selection Wednesday after finishing third in the league in scoring. The 6-foot-4 Richardson averaged 19.1 points per game in GLVC play and 17.7 points overall as the Hawks finished 11-17 while going 6-14 in the GLVC.

Richardson averaged 7.2 rebounds and 1.7 assists overall, while shooting 84.4 percent from the free-throw line. In conference play, he averaged 8.1 rebounds, which ranked third, and shot 84.5 percent from the line, which ranked eighth.

Upper Iowa guard Jake Hilmer, who leed the league in scoring at 22.5 points per game, was named the GLVC Player of the Year, while Truman State’s Jeff Horner was named the Coach of the Year. Truman State guard Kobi Williams was named the Freshman of the Year.

Quincy sophomore forward Mason Wujek was named the Hawks’ recipient of the James R. Spalding Sportsmanship Award.
