QUINCY — When the Quincy University baseball team starts rattling the bats, there’s no slowing down the offense.

The Hawks tagged nine Missouri S&T pitchers for a combined 30 runs in sweeping Sunday’s doubleheader at QU Stadium, winning 11-2 and 19-11 to take three of the four games in their first Great Lakes Valley Conference series of the season.

Quincy, ranked 15th in the NCBWA Division II national poll, scored 44 runs in the series.

It took a few innings before the Hawks found their groove in Sunday’s opener. They led 3-1 heading to the sixth inning when they exploded for eight runs. The first six batters reached safely with Dustin Dupont delivering a two-run single and Nolan Wosman an RBI single.

After an Austin Simpson run-scoring sacrifice fly, Cole Erickson singled and Joe Huffman walked to load the bases. Consecutive walks to Brock Boynton and Gino D’Alessio plated two more runs, and Dupont drove in the final run of the frame with a groundout.

Kobe Essien earned the victory, allowing one run and two hits over five innings with seven strikeouts and one walk. D’Alessio went 2 for 3 with a double and a triple, while Erickson, Wosman and Lance Logsdon had two hits apiece.

In the nightcap, the Hawks (14-4, 3-1 GLVC) scored in each of the first seven innings, highlighted by Logsdon’s three-run home run in the second inning. Zach Parks smacked a two-run home run in the third, Huffman had a two-run double in the fourth.

Wosman cracked a three-run home run in the fifth, while Huffman homered in the sixth and Simpson jacked a two-run homer in the seventh.

All told, the Hawks finished with eight extra-base hits.

Logsdon, Wosman, Simpson, Parks and Huffman — hitting Nos. 3-7 in the lineup — combined to go 12 for 22 with 13 runs scored and 14 RBIs.
