Hawks’ Jennings picks up GLVC Pitcher of the Week accolades

QUINCY — Jayle Jennings helped the Quincy University softball team turn its final homestand in a victory lap.

The Hawks won three of four games last weekend, splitting Friday’s doubleheader with Rockhurst and sweeping Sunday’s Great Lakes Valley Conference twinbill with William Jewell, Jennings earned the victory in two of the three games and earned GLVC Pitcher of the Week honors in the process.

After losing Saturday’s opener against Rockhurst, Jennings guided QU to an 8-0 victory in the nightcap at the Mart Heinen Softball Complex. She tossed her first career no-hitter, striking out three and allowing four walks in five innings.

Sunday against William Jewell, Jennings started the first game and pitched a seven-inning shutout as the Hawks won 2-0. She struck out five, walked none and scattered six hits. In the nightcap, Jennings started and tossed four shutout innings with one strikeout and no walks. She allowed five hits.

Overall, Jennings owns a 6-5 record with a team-best 2.06 ERA. She has struck out 39 and walked 15 in 78.2 innings.
