Hawks hit century mark, will face tougher test in final game of Hansen-Spear Funeral Home Classic
QUINCY — A 55-point first half set the stage for the Quincy University men’s basketball team to enjoy its highest scoring game in three seasons and get the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home Classic started the right way.
The Hawks shot 48.7 percent from the field in the first half of a 103-73 victory over East-West University on Saturday afternoon at Pepsi Arena.
It is the first 100-point game for the Hawks since beating Iowa Wesleyan 115-54 on Dec. 19, 2019.
The Hawks scored the game’s first nine points and led by 17 points just eight minutes into the game. It allowed QU coach Steve Hawkins to substitute liberally and use his entire bench. No QU player was on the court for more than 22 minutes, and no starter played more than 16 minutes.
Isaiah Foster made 4 of 6 3-pointers and led the Hawks with 17 points, while Zion Richardson added 12 points and Orlando Thomas and JJ Schwepker each had 11 points. All 14 QU players scored.
The Hawks (6-5) will face Lake Superior State at 3 p.m. Sunday to wrap up the Classic and finish the first half of the schedule. Quincy won’t return to action until January 5 at Truman State.
