Hawks give up more than 700 yards in offense, get routed at Ashland

ASHLAND, OHIO — The Quincy University football team was overwhelmed it its first road game of the season, giving up at least two touchdowns in every quarter and allowing more than 700 yards in total offense in a 63-23 loss to Ashland.

Ashland scored on nine of its eleven drives. The only possessions for the Eagles when they did not score ended on an interception as time expired in the first half and a kneel down to end the game. 

The Eagles (1-2) racked up a school record 35 first downs. They dominated time of possession, holding the ball for 36 minutes and 23 seconds. Ashland had 336 yards passing and 382 yards rushing. The 718 total yards was three shy of a school record. Junior quarterback Austin Brenner completed 21 of 25 passes for 327 yards passing and five TDs. He also ran for 56 yards and two scores.

Quincy’s offense put up 358 yards of total offense. Quarterback Tionne Harris threw for 212 yards and two touchdowns, and he added 70 rushing yards with a touchdown. Eugene Witherspoon caught a 71-yard touchdown pass, his eighth score this season. Angel Ruiz also caught a touchdown pass.

Peyten Chappel had nine tackles for the Hawks (2-2). Byron Puryear had two sacks.
