KANSAS CITY, Kan. — Ismael Alcantara stole the spotlight, but Dayson Croes was the headliner throughout the American Association All-Star Game on Tuesday night.

The former Quincy University All-American infielder led the West Division all-stars to a 4-3 victory as he went 4 for 4 and drove in the game-tying run in the seventh inning at Legends Field.

Croes, who plays for the Winnipeg Goldeyes, was on deck with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning when Alcantara doubled to left-center to drive in the game-winning run. That hit earned Alcantara, who plays for the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks, the game’s MVP honor.

However, Croes was the most consistent player in the game in the batter’s box, something that has been a staple throughout his two-year professional career.

Hitting leadoff for the West all-stars, Croes drove a single to left-center field in the first inning, dropped a single into right field in the third inning, smoked a single to center field leading off the fifth inning and smacked a double to the fence in left-center field that drove in a run in the seventh inning.

At the all-star break, Croes is fifth in the American Association in hitting with a .332 average and third with 82 hits.
