MORGANTOWN, W. Va. — Griffin Kirn’s transition to the NCAA Division I level has been smooth.

The Quincy Notre Dame graduate and former Quincy University ace is 2-0 in three starts with a 2.04 ERA at West Virginia. Earlier this week, the left-hander was named the Co-Big 12 Pitcher of Week after his shutout of Queens.

Kirn went eight innings, allowing one hit and striking out 10 and walking none in the Mountaineers’ 7-1 victory. Through 17.2 innings this season, Kirn has 16 strikeouts and six walks as West Virginia has started the season 12-0.

Kirn spent three seasons as a starter at QU, winning 21 games and striking out 255, which is the second most in the history of the program. Last spring, as a junior, Kirn was named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Pitcher of the Year after going 7-1 with a 3.00 ERA and 96 strikeouts over 78 innings.
