Culver-Stockton’s Straus named Heart’s first Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week

CANTON, Mo. — Culver-Stockton College junior Delaney Straus from Philadelphia, Mo., was named the first Heart of America Athletic Conference Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week for her performance at the season-opening Central Methodist Open on March 15.

Straus competed in six events, including three field events, during the opening weekend. Straus won the javelin throw and the triple jump while finishing 10th in the high jump.

Straus tossed the javelin 117 feet, 2 inches, the second-best mark in school history and the best in the Heart this season. In the triple jump, Straus leaped 36 feet, 5 ¾ inches, which is also the Heart’s best mark and the fourth-highest mark in the NAIA.

The Wildcats are scheduled to perform this Saturday at the Grand View Relays at Grand View University in Des Moines, Iowa. The first events are slated to begin at 11 a.m.
