CANTON, Mo. – The Beatles. A man on the moon. Woodstock. The Miracle Mets.

What Culver-Stockton football last did in 1969 may not top those other historic events, but what it has done so far in 2021 has them talking on The Hill.

With a 52-28 victory over William Penn at Ellison Poulton Stadium on Saturday, Culver-Stockton matched the school record for most wins in a single season. The 2021 version of the Wildcats improved to 7-2 on Saturday. Culver-Stockton’s 1969 team finished with a 7-1-1 record.

And there are still at least two games remaining on the 2021 calendar.

First, a showdown next week with fellow Heart of America Conference North Division leader Grand View in Des Moines. A division title and a berth in the NAIA playoffs hang in the balance. The regular season finale is at home against Peru State.

Culver-Stockton highlights from the game:

  • Quarterback Jace Orndorff threw for 390 yards and four touchdowns.
  • Connor Perrine broke the school’s career mark with 29 receiving touchdowns with his TD reception in the 1st quarter. The previous mark was 28 by Kevin Wiley from 1986-89.
  • Slayton Ochoa set the school single game record for receiving yards with 263 yards on just four receptions. The previous mark of 232 was set by Kevin Wiley on Sept. 16, 1989 against Iowa Wesleyan College.
  • Running back Jordan Grant ran for 134 yards and a score. He has 964 yards on the season and needs 107 yards over the team’s final two games to break the season single rushing record, which has stood since 1940.
