ROLLA, Mo. — What do a season-high number of turnovers, more struggles shooting from the perimeter and a five-minute offensive drought add up to?

Nothing good.

The Quincy University men’s basketball team played toe-to-toe with Missouri S&T for the first 15 minutes of Thursday night’s Great Lakes Valley Conference opener at the Bullman Multi-Purpose Building. However, the Hawks were outscored 16-3 over the final five minutes of the first half and never recovered, suffering an 87-67 loss.

It didn’t help turning the ball over 24 times or missing seven 3-pointers in a row.

The Hawks went 6 of 18 from 3-point range and 13 of 24 from the free-throw line. Seven games into the season, Quincy (3-4, 0-1 GLVC) ranks last in the 14-team league in 3-point shooting (28.1 percent) and 13th in free-throw shooting (62.9 percent). The Hawks also rank 13th in the GLVC in assist-to-turnover ratio.

Sophomore point guard Isaiah Foster led the Hawks with 17 points, going 7 of 14 from the field, but he had four assists against six turnovers. Sophomore forward Mason Wujek scored 14 points, but the 6-foot-8 post player grabbed only one rebound and went 2 of 7 from the free-throw line.

Missouri S&T (4-1, 1-0 GLVC) shot 47.7 percent from the field and outscored Quincy 25-9 in fast-break points. The Miners scored 27 points off turnovers.
