CANTON, Mo. — It was a home opener to remember for junior forward Alayna Chandler-Gutierrez and the Culver-Stockton College women’s soccer team.

Chandler-Gutierrez scored a career-high four goals as the Wildcats earned a 5-0 victory Wednesday night over Stephens College at Ellison Poulton Stadium.

C-SC, which defeated Northwestern (Iowa) 5-4 last Wednesday in its season opener, scored its first goal in the 21st minute as Chandler-Gutierrez outraced a Stars defender to the ball after a long pass from Savannah Stauffer.

Chandler-Gutierrez then duped the Stars goalkeeper and ripped the ball into the open net for a 1-0 lead.

C-SC added its second goal in the 32nd minute when a 50-50 ball ricocheted to Chandler-Gutierrez, who was 1-on-1 with the goalkeeper and tucked away the goal with a nifty move to her right. Chandler-Gutierrez scored her third goal just 55 seconds into the second half. Freshman Rian Moore slipped a pass to Chandler-Gutierrez, who beat the goalkeeper for the hat trick.

Chandler-Guterrez capped off her night by taking a slick pass from Halle Jennex to net her final goal. Chandler-Gutierrez, who has six goals in the two games, needed just four shots to score her four goals.

Freshman Lola Weise recorded her first career goal in the 61st minute for the Wildcats’ other tally. Weise gathered a pass from Mikayla Gioia, dribbled around a defender and drilled a shot inside the near post.

The Wildcats outshot the Stars 21-0 and had a 9-0 advantage in corner kicks.

Mackenzie Frizzell and the Wildcat defense registered the shutout. Frizzell now has 16 career shutouts, which ranks third all-time. She is just one shutout behind Mackenzie Little for second place.

The Wildcats continue their season with a non-conference match at Harris-Stowe State University in St. Louis at 1 p.m. Saturday.
