CANTON, Mo. — Culver-Stockton College’s Alayna Chandler-Gutierrez can’t be stopped.

On the same day she was named the Heart of America Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week, the junior forward scored her team-leading eighth goal to lead the C-SC women’s soccer team to a 1-0 victory Monday over Doane University at Ellison Poulton Stadium.

The Wildcats are off to a 4-0 start.

After a scoreless first half, C-SC didn’t waste much time taking the lead in the second half.

Wildcat goalkeeper Mackenzie Frizzell played the ball up the right sideline where it eventually found Lexi Clark. She sent a pass to Lola Weise, who found Chandler-Gutierrez streaking toward the goal. Chandler-Gutierrez gathered the pass and slid a slot under the left arm of the sliding Tiger goalkeeper for her third game-winning goal of the season.

Frizzell and the defense made the one goal stand up to record the second shutout of the season. Frizzell made five saves, including one right after C-SC’s goal where she had to stretch high to bring down a Tigers shot.

The Wildcats outshot the visitors 17-6, putting 10 shots on goal.

C-SC is scheduled to play its third game in five days at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday when Saint Ambrose University visits Poulton Stadium.
