QUINCY — Leo Cann’s first career goal and a stout defensive effort in the second half Sunday enabled the Quincy University men’s soccer team to salvage a 1-1 tie with Lewis in the Great Lakes Valley Conference opener at Legends Stadium.

In doing so, the Hawks withstood a barrage.

The Flyers outshot the Hawks 22-6 overall and 11-4 in shots on goal, taking the lead on Godwin Asore’s goal in the 25th minute. The Flyers also had a 9-5 advantage in corner kicks and forced Hawks keeper George Roke to make nine saves.

Cann, the freshman forward from Quincy Notre Dame, scored the equalizer for the Hawks three minutes into the second half as he finished an assist from Mathias Bringedal.
