C-SC turns to alum to guide men’s soccer program

CANTON, Mo. — A Wildcat is coming home, and he has experience coaching on The Hill.

Former Culver-Stockton College men’s soccer player Tyler Hamilton, who enjoyed success the last six seasons coaching at the high school level, is returning to his alma mater to become C-SC’s next head men’s soccer coach.

Wildcats athletic director Pat Atwell announced the move this week, more than a month after Nic Powers resigned to become an assistant coach at Lindenwood University.

“It’s going to be a challenge, but I’m really looking forward to it and can’t wait to hit the ground running,” Hamilton said in a press release. “Having the ties to Culver-Stockton as an alumnus makes it that much more special for me.”

Hamilton doesn’t just have playing experience at the NAIA school. He has coaching experience as well, spending two seasons in a student assistant role under Tyler Tomlinson with the C-SC women’s soccer program.

“Tyler outlined a vision for the program that resonated with those of us who participated in the interview, and he clearly has a passion not only for soccer but for Culver-Stockton,” Atwell said.

Hamilton graduated from C-SC in 2017 and played on the 2014 men’s soccer team that reached the Heart of America Athletic Conference Tournament championship game.

“His experience as a player on a team that competed in the conference championship game will serve him well,” Atwell said. “His knowledge of the Heart of America and the talent needed to compete in this outstanding league will assist him in identifying students who can excel here on The Hill.”

Hamilton spent the last six years coaching soccer at Piasa Southwestern and Alton high schools. He coached the Southwestern boys program in 2017-2018 before taking over the Alton program from 2020-22. Hamilton also coached the Southwestern girls program for six seasons beginning in 2018, winning a regional championship in 2022.
