C-SC to add shotgun sports in 2022, use Quincy Gun Club as its home base
CANTON, Mo. — Culver-Stockton College is hoping to expand its appeal to students from Northeast Missouri and West-Central Illinois by adding shotgun sports in the fall of 2022.
Culver-Stockton made the decision to add competitive shotgun sports to its athletic program for various reasons, but geographic location was a major factor.
“Many area high schools have shotgun sports and there are several colleges and universities with teams in the Heart of America Athletic Conference,” C-SC athletic director Pat Atwell said in a release. “It made sense to add shotgun sports to our lineup.”
C-SC president Dr. Douglas B. Palmer saw the growth of shotgun sports in the nearby communities and views Culver-Stockton as the next step in the journey for those students.
“Many local students have participated in 4-H and FFA and engaged in shotgun sports,” Palmer said in a press release. “Adding this new sport to Wildcat athletics provides these students an opportunity to continue competitive shooting in college.”
Culver-Stockton College will use the Quincy Gun Club, located in West Quincy, Mo., as its home facility with a goal of competing in trap, skeet and sporting clays.
