C-SC softball team suffers third consecutive conference doubleheader sweep

MARSHALL, Mo. — The Culver-Stockton softball team suffered its third straight Heart of America Athletic Conference doubleheader loss after being swept by Missouri Valley College Saturday afternoon in Marshall, Mo.

The Wildcats recorded just one hit in a 10-0 five-inning loss in the opener. In the nightcap, C-SC fell behind 5-0, rallied to tie the game, only to see the Vikings walk off with a 6-5 victory in their final at-bat.

The Wildcats (13-15) have a 9-15 record in Heart play and are in fourth place in the seven-team North Division, three games behind third-place William Penn. C-SC has been outscored 61-9 during its current six-game losing streak.

The Vikings scored three times in the third inning to take a 3-0 lead in the first game. In the fourth inning, Missouri Valley scored seven times off C-SC starter Emma Roseberry. The Wildcats committed two errors in the inning, leading to five unearned runs.

The Wildcats didn’t register a hit until a single by Alle Thompson to lead off the fifth inning.

Missouri Valley jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the second inning of the second game off Wildcat starter Makayla Slavic.

C-SC had just two hits through four innings, but it finally found some office in the fifth inning by plating five runs on six hits. After Andrea Belme drove in the first run with a groundout, the Wildcats tallied four straight doubles from Kaitlin Little, Thompson, Calissa Steel and Taryn Brown to knot the game at five.

Missouri Valley won the game in the bottom of the seventh on an infield single with two outs.

Katelyn Felt, Thompson and Brown each had two hits for the Wildcats.
