C-SC seniors go out with bang in final home game, lead softball team to upset of CMU

Culver-Stockton

CANTON, Mo. — A trio of seniors on the Culver-Stockton College softball team took the idea of going out with a bang literally Thursday.

Playing their final game at Himsl Field against nationally ranked Central Methodist University, the Wildcats’ Katelyn Felt, Alle Thompson and Baylee Schneider engineered a three-run, sixth-inning rally that led to a 6-3 victory and split of the Heart of America Athletic Conference doubleheader.

The Eagles, ranked 17th in the NAIA national poll and the top team in the Heart’s South Division standings, won the opener 12-3.

In fact, CMU (33-9, 20-4 Heart) looked like it was trending toward a sweep after hitting two home runs in the top of the sixth inning to tie the nightcap at 3.

In the bottom of the frame, Felt led off with a double down the left-field line. Thompson followed with a double to center field to drive in Felt. Schneider then jacked a two-run home run to right field to make it a three-run advantage.

Three seniors. Three extra-base hits. Three runs. And the lead.

That’s going out with a bang.

Junior pitcher Emma Roseberry allowed a one-out single and a walk in the top of the seventh, but induced a flyout and a ground ball to end the game. Roseberry struck out six and walked one. Sophia Ashby went 2 for 3 with a home run and three RBIs for the Wildcats (19-29, 11-13 Heart).
