CANTON, Mo. — With success has come respect for the Culver-Stockton College football program.

That is obvious with how the Heart of America Athletic Conference coaches voted in the league’s annual preseason poll.

The Wildcats, coming off an historic 8-3 season last fall, were picked second in the Heart’s North Division. Three-time defending division champion Grand View is the unanimous favorite in the North Division, receiving five first-place votes and 25 total points.

Coaches are not allowed to vote for their own team.

C-SC received 21 points, getting four second-place votes and one first-place vote. Last year, the Wildcats were second in the North with a 4-1 record, suffering only a 9-6 loss at Grand View in what turned out to be the division championship game.

The Wildcats return quarterback Jase Orndorff, who threw for 2,133 yards and 21 touchdowns against just four interceptions in eight games last fall, as well as a number of offensive weapons. Junior safety David Hernandez and senior linebacker Eric Nicks anchor a unit that allowed just four touchdowns in five North Division games last season.

The Wildcats open the season August 27 against Baker in Baldwin City, Kan.
