FAYETTE, Mo. — The Culver-Stockton College football team put back-to-back losses behind it, using a strong passing attack and an opportunistic defense to dispatch Central Methodist University 26-7 at Davis Field on Saturday.

Yet, a special teams play changed the tone of the game.

C-SC trailed 7-3 in the second quarter — Michael Velasco put the Wildcats on the board with a career-long 50-yard field goal — before Rommarrus Hinson blocked a punt by CMU’s Evan Workman and Darren Jones scooped it up and returned it 23 yards for a touchdown.

It gave the Wildcats a 10-3 halftime lead.

Another Velasco field goal and a 13-yard touchdown pass from junior quarterback Jase Orndorff to Kevin Hodges put C-SC up 20-7 heading to the fourth quarter. Isaiah Eppinger finished the scoring with a 14-yard touchdown scamper.

Orndorff completed 29 of 44 passes for 370 yards and a touchdown, connecting with Slayton Ochoa 10 times for 138 yards. The C-SC defense intercepted CMU three times with junior safety David Hernandez picking off two passes. The Eagles were limited to 77 total yards and gave up six sacks.

The Wildcats (2-3) finish the non-divisional portion of their schedule at noon next Saturday against No. 12 Benedictine at Ellison Poulton Stadium.
