Area golfers help Danville Area Community College qualify for NJCAA national tourney

NORMAL, Ill. — Four local golfers are headed to the NJCAA Division II national tournament after helping the Danville Area Community College men’s golf team finish third in the two-day Region 24 tournament played at Illinois State University’s Weibring Golf Club.

The Jaguars posted a 54-hole score of 906, four shots clear of Heartland Community College in fourth place. The top three teams advance to nationals with Parkland College taking first at 849 and Illinois Central College finishing second at 882.

Quincy High School products Luke Mettemeyer and Cameron Bergman, Liberty graduate Blake Arnold and Quincy Notre Dame alum Zane Douglas are part of the Jaguars’ five-man team.

Bergman finished 15th at the Region 24 tournament with a 225 total, which included shooting even-par 71 in the second round. Arnold was 17th at 227 and Mettemeyer was 21st at 232. Douglas shot a 250. Grady Lancaster led the Jaguars with a 224, placing 13th.

The NJCAA Division II national tournament will be played May 21-25 at Twin Hills Country Club in Joplin, Mo.
