Swim classes, volleyball league offered for kids at Quincy Family YMCA
QUINCY — After a 3-month break, group swim lessons are back at the Quincy Family YMCA. Registrations are open, and lessons start Feb. 2. The deadline to register is Jan. 28.
Classes will be Monday and Wednesday evenings, Tuesday and Thursday evenings, and Saturday mornings. Classes will meet eight times. The weekday sessions will meet twice weekly over a month, and Saturdays once a week over a two-month period.
Classes offered are:
- Water Babies (6 months to 3 years): Parents or caregivers will join their child in the water. The focus is on getting familiar with water and introducing basic swimming skills such as submersion, back floating, kicking and reaching.
- Level 1: Beginner swim instruction for kids comfortable in the water
- Level 2: Swimmers should already be able to float on their front and back, put their head underwater and swim for short distances
- Level 3-4: Swimmers should already be somewhat comfortable swimming front stroke and swimming on their back, and swim distances of at least ½ pool length.
The cost for the Water Babies class is $30 for members and $36 for non-members. The cost for the group lessons is $36 for members and $52 for non-members.
The YMCA also is reintroducing a volleyball league for students in grades 1-8. Young players will learn the fundamentals of the game with an emphasis on teamwork. Athletes will learn how to pass, set, hit and serve. Teams will be coached by volunteers. Registration is open. The deadline to register is Feb. 27. Games will take place Saturdays March 26 through May 7 at the YMCA. The cost to play is $40 for members and $55 for non-members.
