Southeastern seventh grade volleyball team wins Class 1A state championship

CLINTON, Ill. — The Southeastern seventh grade girls volleyball team won the Illinois Elementary School Association Class 1A state championship last weekend, beating Pontiac St. Mary’s in straight sets in the title match to finish the season with a 17-1 record.

The Suns beat undefeated Sigel St. Michael’s 25-18, 25-13 in the quarterfinals and beat undefeated Ottawa Marquette 25-8, 25-7 in the semifinals. In the championship match, Southeastern won 25-16, 25-16.

Kara Stephens led the Suns with 11 service points in the title match and eight service points in the semifinal victory with two aces in each match.
