QJHS, Nauvoo-Colusa girls basketball teams finish second at state tourneys

RIVERTON, Mo. — The Quincy Junior High School eighth grade girls basketball team was outscored 16-6 in the second quarter Thursday night by Dunlap Valley and suffered a 41-30 loss in the Class 4A state championship game.

The Comets finish with a 23-1 record.

Jada Brown led the Comets with 14 points, while Myley Longcor added seven points. Dunlap Valley had three players finish in double figures.

Meanwhile, in the Class 2A tournament in Havana, Teutopolis held Nauvoo-Colusa to three points in the first quarter and won the state championship with a 34-24 victory. The Vikings finish their season with a 16-3 record.

In the third-place game, Mendon Unity held Wenona Fieldcrest scoreless in the second half and won 36-11. The Mustangs finish with a 27-2 record.
