Pittsfield seventh grade girls win IESA state championship, Liberty takes second

AUBURN, Ill. — By the end of the first quarter of the Illinois Elementary School Association seventh grade Class 3A girls basketball state championship, the intrigue was mostly gone.

The Pittsfield Lady Braves saw to that.

Pittsfield overwhelmed Paris Mayo 19-2 in the first quarter, went on another 12-2 run in the third quarter and ran away with the state title with a 44-11 victory at Auburn High School.

The Lady Braves finish the season with a 27-0 record. Reese Ramsey scored 23 points for Pittsfield and finished the three-game state tournament series with 63 points. Megan Heffington added six points for Pittsfield.

In the seventh grade Class 2A title game, Liberty fell to Havana 41-23. The Eagles finish their season with a 27-2 record. Weslee John led the Eagles with eight points and Aubrey Fessler added six.
