OMAHA, Neb. — The Korn Ferry Tour’s regular season ended without Quincy native Luke Guthrie finding his way back into the mix.

Guthrie missed the cut in the Pinnable Back Championship, shooting back-to-back rounds of 2-over 73 last Thursday and Friday in the tour finale. He finished 147th on the tour points list and will not participate in the three-tournament Korn Ferry Finals.

To keep playing status on the Korn Ferry Tour in 2022, Guthrie will have to compete in the three-stage qualifying tournament. The first stage is scheduled for late September, although because he was in the top 150 on the points list and is a former winner on the tour, Guthrie is expected to start his quest in the second stage.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the 2020 Korn Ferry season was shut down after six events and resumed with 12 events by the end of October. A decision was made to combine the 2020 and 2021 seasons, giving the top 25 on the points list at the end of 2021 their PGA Tour card for next season.

Guthrie never played himself into that mix.

He missed 23 straight cuts before breaking through at the Evans Scholars Invitational in Chicago in late May. He finished tied for 18th — his highest finish in 2021. Guthrie missed the next four cuts, but made three of the following four cuts with three finishes in the top 40s.

Guthrie’s issues off the tee plagued him. He hit just 39.3 percent of the fairways and just 50 percent of the greens in regulation in his two rounds during the Pinnacle Bank Championship at the Club at Indian Creek.

Guthrie ranked 160th on the tour in total driving and 158th in greens in regulation. He was 153rd in scoring with an average round of 71.53 strokes.
