Jacoby gets another UFC win

LAS VEGAS — Former Quincy University and Culver-Stockton College quarterback Dustin Jacoby remained unbeaten in his return to the UFC, knocking out Darren Stewart with 3:04 left in the first round of their light heavyweight fight on Saturday in the UFC Apex.

The fight was on the undercard of the UFC Vegas 35: Barboza vs. Chikadze card televised on ESPN.

Jacoby withstood two takedown attempts by Stewart in the opening moments of the fight. Cagesidepress.com reported Jacoby then put Stewart against the cage 90 seconds into the fight. With three minutes left in the round, both fighters met in the middle and exchanged punches. Jacoby landed two punches to rock Stewart, then started unleashing combos and a few knees that landed. Stewart was firing back but wasn’t landing anything, causing the referee to jump in and halt the fight.

Jacoby improved his record to 15-5-1. He has won four of his five fights since returning to the UFC on Aug. 4, 2020. He earned a draw in his last fight against Ion Cutelaba. He had two fights in the UFC in 2012, losing both. He was then released from the promotion and concentrated on his kickboxing career for the next several years.

Jacoby, 33, is a graduate of Triopia High School in Concord, Ill. He was the No. 22-ranked light heavyweight by MMA World Rankings before the fight with Stewart. He trains at the Factory X gym in Englewood, Colo.
Jacoby’s original opponent was scheduled to be Askar Mozharov, who was replaced in early July.
