Cornhole league forming in Hannibal; games to be played on Wednesdays beginning Nov. 9
HANNIBAL, Mo. — Hannibal Parks and Recreation is creating a new league to bring a backyard sport inside a newly-renovated facility.
The Clemens Cornhole League will be played in the Clemens Training Facility, the former offices at Hannibal’s historic baseball stadium, Clemens Field. The building has been renovated to allow teams and players pitching and hitting practice.
The cornhole league will begin Wednesday, Nov. 9, with play continuing on Wednesdays for six to eight weeks, depending on the number of teams. Registration deadline is 5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 2. Cost is $60 per team.
Jacob Bone, recreation supervisor for Hannibal Parks and Recreation, said in a press release that cornhole has increased in popularity over the years, starting at tailgate parties and now televised with major national tournaments.
“It’s a good sport for husbands and wives or just friends or relatives,” Bone said. “It’s fun entertainment for a weeknight.”
The league will be divided into recreational and competitive teams if there is enough interest. Teams
are encouraged to bring their own bags or they can be provided.
Registration may be made online at www.hannibalparks.recdesk.com/Community/Home/ or at Hannibal
City Hall, 320 Broadway. Contact jbone@hannibal-mo.gov for more information.
