Carthage eighth graders win sectional title, earn spot in state quarterfinals

The Carthage eighth grade boys basketball team is headed to the state tournament. Carthage beat West Prairie 48-31 in the Class 2A sectional championship Wednesday night at Unity High School in Mendon.

Carthage (18-3) will face Decatur Robinson (15-0) at 10 a.m. Saturday in the state quarterfinals at Mount Pulaski High School.

Meanwhile, the Quincy Catholic eighth grade team suffered a 32-30 loss to Springfield Lincoln in the Class 3A sectional championship at Auburn Junior High School in Divernon. Gavin Doellman led the Crusaders with 14 points.
