Six innings of shutout pitching from Yost help Gems rout Bees by 10-run rule

QUINCY — Gage Yost pitched six innings of shutout baseball, and the Quincy Gems turned a close game into a shortened game with six runs in the final two innings in a 10-0 victory over the Burlington Bees on Saturday night in a Prospect League game at QU Stadium.

The Gems (8-9) are 1 1/2 games out of first place behind Normal in the Great River Division. 

Yost allowed four walks and three hits while striking out six. Burlington’s best chance came in the second inning when Yost walked the bases loaded with one out. The right-hander struck out Dawson Estep and Trey Adams to quell the threat.

The Gems scored twice in the first inning on Matthew Batts’ single that scored Zach Stewart and Hayden Moore. Otto Jones drove in two more runs with a single in the fourth inning.

Quincy added three runs in the sixth inning. Nolan Wosman stole home on the back end of a double steal attempt. Drew Townsend tripled to center field to score Gage Swansen, and Jones singled to right to score Townsend.

The Gems ended the game in the seventh. Two walks and a hit batter loaded the bases. Stewart scored on a wild pitch, and Swansen’s single to left drove in Batts and Jonathan Duncan.

Wosman had three hits and three stolen bases for the Gems. Swansen, Townsend and Jones had two hits each.
