At Griffon Park, St. Joseph, Mo.

Quincy University 7, Missouri Western 4: Trailing by a run going to the top of the seventh, the Hawks rallied to snare the first game of a non-conference doubleheader. With one out, Gino D’Alessio singled, took second on a wild pitch and scored on Lance Logsdon’s single to tie the game. Luke Napleton singled, and Dayson Croes followed with a single that plated one run. An error on the right fielder allowed another run to score, and Nolan Wosman capped the rally with an RBI double. Right-hander Brett Taucher threw 3 ⅓ innings of scoreless, hitless relief to earn the victory. He struck out two and walked one. Croes went 4 for 4 with two RBIs, while Napleton was 2 for 3 with a triple and three runs scored.

Missouri Western 5, Quincy University 2: Free bases were the Hawks undoing in the nightcap. QU starter Kobe Essien allowed two runs in the first inning as he walked four, uncorked two wild pitches and allowed one out without recording an out. Still, the game was tied at 2 until the sixth inning when the Griffons opened the frame with a walk, an error and a fielder’s choice. A three-run home run followed to give Missouri Western the lead. Cruz Meier stopped the bleeding for the Hawks after the first inning and worked four scoreless innings of relief, but the four QU pitchers combined to walk nine batters and hit two while allowing just three hits. Dayson Croes wetn 2 for 3 and Gino D’Alessio delivered a two-run single for the Hawks, who were limited to five hits.

At Nichols Field, Canton, Mo.

Culver-Stockton College 14, Hannibal-LaGrange University 4: The Wildcats bookended the rout with a pair of five-run innings. In the first, C-SC sent 10 batters to the plate with Doug Barker delivering an RBI double and Dax Flowerree belting a two-run double. In the seventh, the Wildcats invoked the 10-run rule as Caden Power had a two-run double and the final two runs scored on an error and a wild pitch. Barker went 4 for 5 with four runs scored, while Ronald Applewhite and Dax Flowerree each went 3 for 4 with Flowerree collecting two doubles and a triple. Anthony Ribes allowed two runs over four innings with three strikeouts to earn the victory. 

College softball

At Himsl Field, Canton, Mo.

Culver-Stockton College 13, Iowa Wesleyan 0: The Wildcats’ Emma Roseberry tossed a no-hitter and was backed by an offense that had 14 hits, including three extra-base knocks. Roseberry struck out 13, walked none and allowed only two baserunners. The Wildcats had 12 different players collect hits with Baylee Schneider going 2 for 2 with a double and three RBIs and Madison Covey going 2 for 2. Chloe Turner belted a three-run home run.

Culver-Stockton College 8, Iowa Wesleyan 1: Tied at one going to the sixth inning, the Wildcats erupted for seven runs to put away the doubleheader sweep. Katelyn Felt got the inning going by leading off with a triple and scoring on Alle Thompson’s single. Iowa Wesleyan proceeded to commit three errors in the inning, allowing C-SC to score seven times on just five hits. Felt finished 3 for 4, while Aubrey Feiden went 2 for 3 for the Wildcats. Makayla Slavik allowed one run and four hits over seven innings to earn the victory. She struck out seven and walked none. 

Women’s lacrosse

At Fayette, Iowa

Quincy University 26, Upper Iowa 10: Sophomore attacker Danielle Robinson scored 10 goals and surpassed 100 goals in her career as the Hawks answered the Peacocks’ opening tally with a bevy of goals. Robinson has 108 career goals now. Patricia Chavira and Josephina Szmanda each scored five goals for the Hawks.
