Doggy Paddlers’ rally gets spoiled as Hoots walk off with victory
O’FALLON, Mo. — A late-inning rally gave the Quincy Doggy Paddlers an opportunity to snare a road victory Saturday night.
That was before the O’Fallon Hoots walked their way to victory.
Tied at 9 going into the 10th inning, the Doggy Paddlers took the lead when Wandel Campana scored on a wild pitch. However, the Hoots tied the game in the bottom of the frame with a leadoff single and walked off with a 9-8 victory when Connor Mendell drew a bases-loaded walk to force in the winning run at CarShield Field.
The Doggy Paddlers trailed 5-3 heading into the eighth inning when Tyler Butina walked and Brady Kindhart singled to get the rally started. One out later, Jameson Johnson ripped a two-run double to left field.
O’Fallon regained the lead with two runs in the bottom of the inning, but Quincy came right back.
In the top of the ninth, Kannon Kirk singled with two outs and Butina walked. Kindhart reached on an error in left field, allowing Kirk to score and Butina to reach third base. Butina scored the tying run on a wild pitch.
The Hoots stranded a runner on second base in the bottom of the ninth to force extra innings.
Kindhart went 3 for 5 with two RBIs, while Jimmy Koza went 3 for 4 with a run scored for the Doggy Paddlers, who fell to 14-22 overall following their fourth consecutive loss.
