Doggy Paddlers unable to generate offense in another road loss to Pistol Shrimp

PERU, Ill. — The Quincy Doggy Paddlers left the offense at QU Stadium.
For the second time on the current three-game road trip, the offense fell silent, managing just four hits in Thursday’s 8-1 loss in Prospect League action to the Illinois Valley Pistol Shrimp at Schweikert Stadium in Veterans Memorial Park.
Quincy managed two runs and eight hits in Wednesday’s loss to the Pistol Shrimp.
The Doggy Paddlers didn’t score until the ninth inning Thursday when Krew Bond led off with a single to left field, Brayden Roberts was hit by a pitch and Kannon Kirk flied out to right field, allowing Bond to tag up and advance to third base.
Jameson Johnson followed with a single to left field to drive in Bond.
Quincy had only five other baserunners get into scoring position and had a runner thrown out at home plate in the top of the eighth inning. Pistol Shrimp starter Bryce Loeger allowed one hit and two walks in five scoreless innings to earn the victory.
Doggy Paddlers starter Patrick Wadja allowed five runs — three were earned — and seven hits over six innings with three walks and two strikeouts in suffering the loss. The Quincy defense made two errors behind him.
Quincy (11-17, 2-3 second half) will wrap up a three-game road trip at 6:30 p.m. Thursday by facing the Springfield Lucky Horseshoes at Robin Roberts Stadium.
