West Hancock’s Gooding, Pittsfield’s Marable, Brown County’s Adcox qualify for finals at state track meet
CHARLESTON, Ill. — A trio of area athletes qualified for the finals of the Class 1A boys state track and field championships at O’Brien Stadium on the Eastern Illinois University campus.
West Hancock senior Nolan Gooding took sixth in the preliminaries of the triple jump with a leap of 13.05 meters (42 feet, 9.75 inches). Altamont’s Ben Roedl took the top spot in the prelims with a jump of 13.98 meters (45-10.5).
Pittsfield junior Bodine Marable grabbed the final spot in the 400-meter dash finals, finishing ninth in the preliminaries in 50.44 seconds. North Shore Country Day’s Brian E. Smith II set the pace at 48.12 seconds.
Brown County sophomore Cooper Adcox qualified for the finals in the shot put, finishing 11th in the prelims with a toss of 15.73 meters (51 feet, 7.25 inches). Dwight’s Graham Meister holds the lead after the first day with a toss of 17.81 meters (58-5.25).
Pleasant Hill’s Sammy Al-Rawas finished 18th in the shot put at 14.84 meters, while Camp Point Central’s Evan Walker was 33rd in 13.52 inches.
Liberty’s Tate Huber finished 13th in the long jump with a leap of 6.27 meters, while Camp Point Central’s Curtis Rigg was 16th with a jump of 6.26 meters. Gooding finished 17th in the long jump at 6.24 meters.
Rigg took 21st in the 100 dash in 11.19 seconds, while Pittsfield’s Taylor Graham finished 26th in 11.30.
Brown County’s Kanye Mitchell finished 33rd in the 110 hurdles in 16.36. In the 300 hurdles, Liberty’s Luke Schuette was 38th in 43.65 seconds and Illini West’s Kinnick Bliss was 40th in 43.79. Payson Seymour’s Jordan Martin finished 30th in the 400 dash in 52.64.
Pittsfield finished 16th in the 4×100 relay in 43.87 seconds, 21st in the 4×200 relay in 1:32.32 and 36th in the 4×400 relay in 3:49.50. Illini West finished 24th in the 4×800 relay in 8:38.65.
In the field events, Brown County’s Trey Fullerton took 26th in the discus with a toss of 40.28 meters and Camp Point Central’s Tatum Eicken finished 28th in the triple jump at 12.12 meters.
