MONMOUTH, Ill. — The Macomb girls soccer team made history Wednesday night in dramatic fashion.

Kate Stortzum scored off Kylie Robinson’s assist with eight minutes remaining in regulation to lift third-seeded Macomb to a 2-1 victory over seventh-seeded Beardstown in the championship game of the Class 1A Monmouth Regional at Pattee Field. 

It is the Bombers’ first regional title in program history. Macomb (9-6-3) advances to the Monticello Sectional and will take on top-seeded Williamsville at noon Saturday.

Stortzum scored off another Robinson assist for the first goal with four minutes remaining in the first half.
