South Shelby girls rely on strength of relay teams again to place second at Class 2 sectional track meet

MOKANE, Mo. — The South Shelby girls track team took first place in six events and placed second in the Class 2 sectional track meet on Saturday at South Callaway High School.

Fayette won the meet with 105 points, with South Shelby scoring 89. Highland was sixth with 39 points, and Monroe City was seventh with 38 points.

South Shelby took third in the 4×100 relay with a time of 51.56 and first in the 4×200 in 1:47.97 with Sofia Eleazarraraz, Gracynn Lanpher, Belle Roush and Callie McWilliams. Roush, Lanpher, McWilliams and Samentha Koper won the 4×400 in 4:10.39, and the all-freshman team of Makenzie Wilt, Ainsleigh Truitt, Avery Gough and Koper won the 4×800 in 10:14.32.

Charlie Roush was third in the javelin with a throw of 35 meters, first the shot put with a throw of 11.46 meters and first in the discus with a toss of 39.27 meters. McWilliams took second in the triple jump at 11.4 meters. Koper won the 800-meter run with a time of 2:23.61, and Lily Van Houten was third in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 13;03.84.

Highland’s Chevie Sharpe won the 1,600-meter run in 5:40.47 and was second in the 800-meter run in 2:27.96 and the 400-meter run in 58.30 seconds. Teammate Bailie Crst was fourth in the javelin with a time of 34.54 meters, and the 4×400 meter relay team of Ali Lundberg, Eva Logsdon, Hannah Ritterbusch and Sharpe placed second with a time of 4:11.30.

Monroe City’s Bradi Keller placed second in two events — the 3,200-meter run in 12:48.36 and the pole vault in 2.85 meters. Teammate Timia Reinberg took fourth in the shot put with a throw of 10.48 meters. The 4×800-meter relay team of Emily Spalding, Rylie Mulvaney, Brynn Williams and Keller took third with a time of 10:38.25.

Mark Twain’s Amaris Melvin was third in the 100-meter dash in 16.49 seconds. Ella Moss won the long jump at 5.11 meters and was fourth in the triple jump with 10.62 meters.
